The HC-TC3 is the workhorse for most residential HVAC work — covers up to 1-1/4″ copper, which handles 95% of residential and light-commercial line sets. Step up to HC-TC4 if you also cut larger commercial lines or heavy plumbing.

Pick the cutter that matches the largest tubing you regularly cut — bigger cutters handle smaller sizes too. HC-TC1 (1/8″–7/8″) for mini-split linesets and tight residential service. HC-TC2 (1/8″–1-1/8″) for general residential HVAC and plumbing. HC-TC3 (1/8″–1-1/4″) for full residential and light-commercial copper lines. Class 1.6 is the European Standard for analog pressure gauge accuracy — readings are within ±1.6% of full scale across the operating range. For a 500 PSI gauge, that's ±8 PSI. This is the professional service tier (Class 2.5 is consumer-grade, Class 1.0 is lab-grade). Class 1.6 gives you the precision needed for proper subcool / superheat charging without the cost of lab-grade gauges.

HCPRO Black Knight tube cutters cut copper, brass, aluminum, and PVC tubing. Copper is the most common (HVAC refrigerant line sets, plumbing water lines). Brass for plumbing fittings and some refrigerant lines. Aluminum for some modern HVAC systems and automotive A/C. PVC for drain lines, condensate plumbing, and irrigation. The heavy-duty steel cutting wheel handles all four without changeover.

No — the HC-TC2 pocket cutter is the cutting tool without an integrated deburring reamer. For built-in deburring, step up to the HC-TC3 (1/8″–1-1/4″) or HC-TC4 (1/8″–1-3/4″), which both include a fold-out reamer in the handle. After cutting with the HC-TC2, you can deburr with a separate handheld reamer if your install requires it.

Signs your cutting wheel is dull and ready to replace: (1) cuts take noticeably more rotations to complete than when new, (2) burr on cut tubing is heavier than usual, (3) visible nicks, chips, or flat spots on the cutting edge, (4) cutting wheel binds or slips during rotation. The HC-TC2 includes a spare wheel in the handle — swap it in under 30 seconds when the primary wheel finally wears. Additional replacement wheels are available separately for shop-stocked inventory.
