Which Black Knight vacuum pump should I pick?

HCEC-6S (6 CFM single-stage, 115V) is the economy choice for residential service. HCBK-6D (this pump — 6 CFM dual-stage, dual-voltage) is the workhorse for techs who want deeper vacuum and global voltage. HCBK-12DC (12 CFM sparkless BLDC, 15 micron) is the flagship for commercial volume and A2L / flammable refrigerant work.

Is a single-stage pump enough for my work?

For residential A/C and refrigeration service, a 6 CFM single-stage pump like the HCEC-6S evacuates systems to a clean vacuum efficiently — it's the standard choice for most residential techs. If you regularly need the deepest possible vacuum (deep moisture removal, high-end commercial), step up to the dual-stage HCBK-6D. It's the smart pick for techs building their first professional kit, or shops that want a dependable backup pump without the premium-tier cost.

What oil does it use and how often do I change it?

Use ISO VG46 synthetic vacuum pump oil (we sell it in quart and gallon). The HCBK-6D holds 13.9 oz / 410 mL. Change the oil when it turns cloudy or milky (moisture contamination), after every heavily-contaminated system, or at minimum every 10-20 evacuations. Clean oil is the single biggest factor in how deep your pump pulls — the no-mess drain makes field changes quick.

Do I need a special hose for fast evacuation?

For fastest pull-down, use a 3/8″ high-flow evacuation hose (the Black Knight Dual Force 3/8″ hose) rather than a standard 1/4″ charging hose. The larger bore moves significantly more air per minute. The HCBK-6D has both 1/4″ and 3/8″ SAE intake fittings so you can run either. Pair with the Dual Force evacuation kit for the matched-spec setup.

Can I use this on R-410A and A2L systems?

R-410A and standard HFC refrigerants: yes. For A2L (R-32, R-454B) and flammable refrigerants, use our HCBK-12DC sparkless BLDC pump — its brushless motor produces no sparks during evacuation. The HCEC-6S uses a standard induction motor and is best kept to non-flammable HFC work.

Can I return an unused pump?
